Heli-Skiing in Russia (Kamchatka)
In the far east of Russia, situated between the Okhtsk Sea to the West and the Bering Sea to the east, the Kamchatka Peninsula is a remote and
isolated land that is the size of Germany, Austria and Switzerland combined. At 4,750 metres, Kljutschevskayay is the highest of the peninsula's 200 volcanoes,
29 of which are active - making it the greatest concentration of volcanoes found anywhere on earth.
Its significance as a strategic military base, its low population density, few roads and lack of large-scale development have left the vast majority of the
Peninsula untarnished by human hands and allowing for amazing ski exploration!
We can now offer access to these vast and expansive powder fields of the Russian backcountry, with this fantastic package.
The heli-skiing on offer is suitable for first timers or experienced heli-campaigners. With the possibility to ski up to 50kms (in a week)
of vertical, to have untracked slopes, with stunning views, surrounded by smoking volcanoes, this really is a trip not to be missed!
With no lifts in view, the helicopter will pick you up directly outside your hotel.
A good day will offer you around 7000 - 10000 vertical meters. The heli-time included in the package is the minimum time you will need, even in bad weather.
Given the fact that you will usually meet very good weather and excellent snow conditions you have the option to buy more hours on the helicopter.
You can look forward to a breath taking flight above Kamchatka with some of the most amazing scenery you will ever experience. You will be landing on volcanoes up to 3500m high and single routes will take you down more than 2000 vertical meters. It is definitely not unusual to ski corn snow and powder on the same day and even the same run! Stopping off for a dip in thermal pools en route is always an added bonus.
Several guides per group allow for smaller breakout groups so all abilities are catered for and all terrain is covered. All guiding and safety equipment is provided, as is the standard lodge style accommodation and outdoor hot tubs at the hotel for relaxing after a hard day in the powder. The 3 star Hotel Lodge Antarius will be your base. With friendly and attentive staff, this Russian run hotel offers all you need in comfortable and clean accommodation with hearty three-course evening dinners. It has a sauna, thermal pools, massage facilities and internet connections. It is basic, but remote and peaceful.
Flights into Moscow and a one-night stop over are the norm here before flying onto Kamchatka the next day.
